FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Blaze 3D Printed Aerobatic Micro RC HotlinerWorld's First 3D Printed Micro RCApril 10, 2013 Custom Power Solar introduces the Blaze 3 - the third generation 3D printed plane with fully covered wings, AS3X gyro stabilization receiver, easy twist in bayonet motor mount, 50% larger tail surfaces. Hollow core for lightness, symmetrical airfoil for aerobatics. Cutouts for servos. November 17, 2012 Custom Power Solar introduces the Blaze 2 - the second generation 3D printed plane with fully covered wings. Hollow core for lightness, symmetrical airfoil for aerobatics. Cutouts for aileron servos. October 24, 2012 Custom Power Solar introduces a unique new way to fabricate micro RC aircraft - 3D printing. Planes are 3D printed at Shapeways, the world's largest 3D print shop. This unique new process enables fabrication of plane components not possible with conventional molded technologies. Now you can have your very own Blaze Micro RC Hotliner printed for you! The Blaze was designed from my 31 years of flying hang gliders and 12 years of flying RCs, everything from micros to 5m electric sailplanes. I've built many VR equipped aircraft - you may remember me from the infamous "Virtual Death at 150mph". Lately I've been having way too much fun designing products with 3D modeling. I owned a computer graphics company back in the 80s, designed all the hardware and 3D modeling and rendering software (over 2m lines of code). Three companies later and here I am back making products with 3D modeling. When I'm not making models & shipping product, I'm usually off flying at Fort Funston and helping care for our club, the world's largest hang gliding club - Fellow Feathers Hang Gliding Club. I wanted a fast aerobatic plane along the lines of the Beast (I have one, its my other fav plane) and the Sbach. But didnt like the weird cross-controlling needed for biplanes, and can't quite get enough rudder on the Sbach to do knife edge the way I like. The V1 wing is an unusual flat plate design with symettrical arifoil ribs, designed for the absolute minimum weight vs strength in a wing, given the 0.7mm min thickness of the white, strong, flexible material. It can be covered. The V2 is a WSF covered version, 6g heavier. Rcvr mounts in the middle, with pushrods running back to rudder/elevator. Wing servos drive the ailerons. Battery cover is a nifty feature only possible with 3D printing. The battery cover can't come off. Rotate 180 degrees to open, reverse to close. The V3 uses a receiver with the AS3X gyro stabilization. We found without the stabilization the planes were VERY sensitive to throttle settings due to the huge prop torque. The AS3X makes the Blaze totally controllable. We modified the motor mount to allow super easy, twist in bayonet mounting. Also added 50% more to the tail surfaces, providing much cleaner pitch and turning characteristics. To order: Blaze Specs: Plane weight V1: 30g V2: 36g V3: 36g Flying weight V1: 67g V2: 73g V3: 73g Wingspan 333mm Length 247mm Thrust 6x3 prop 130g Suggested parts:
